5 Months

IMG_8905

Ollie has been hitting quite a few milestones lately and isn’t showing signs of slowing down. It’s quite exciting but a bit sad because soon he won’t be a baby anymore. *Sigh* Tis life.

IMG_4944

His mature hair is coming in a bit curly *fingers crossed*. I can’t help but picture him being a curly-haired kid. But I’ll be happy if he’s an equal parts combination between G and myself. So far he’s looking a lot like his own person and I love it.

IMG_4962

He’s no longer happy reclining. He wants to be sitting and enjoys practicing. I can’t lie, I find it a bit amusing when he falls over.

IMG_9049

He is also no longer happy on his back. He rolled over from back to front in mid-July and he’s been determined to stay on his belly ever since. He now sleeps on his side. Doing so gave me heavy anxiety the first few nights but I’m over it now.

IMG_9053

He is OBSESSED with our cats. He’s always looking at them, especially Ludo since he’s always out and about. The cats are indifferent. But I think Ludo soon won’t be once he learns this wee person will be able to give him cuddles one day.

IMG_4987

He won’t stop sucking on his toes. So cute but so not helpful when trying to change his diaper. Changing his diaper has become a bit of an effort. He use to just kick but now he twists, crosses his legs, arches up. Oh boy.

IMG_5022

He’s making friends. I cannot wait to see how he and his friends interact as they get older. I’ve been loving the new moms I met at one of the coffee dates. One is the mom I was determined to befriend. She’s super nice and pretty much a go-go-go person. I need that because I find Ollie and I stay pretty much in our neighborhood (Um…I still haven’t learned to drive our manual car…yup). We need to start exploring more.

IMG_9176

The jumparoo is still a favorite. He looks at it longingly when he’s taken out of it (often because he’s tired and is ready to nap).

IMG_9178

Other milestones:

-He’s saying “Mama” a lot. Mostly when he gets upset when my husband is putting him to sleep. I don’t know if he knows I’m mama, but I don’t care. Sounds great to my ears.
-He’s showing interest in our food and tries to grab it. But really, he’s trying to grab everything lately.
-He’s getting better at his bedtime routine (bath, book, singing, rocking, bed). He’s also napping a lot better. He’s still waking up once to twice a night to feed but I don’t mind that so much.
-When my husband is holding him upright on his lap, he knows that when he bounces, G will lift him up in the air.
-He brightens up so much when he hears the music from our Music Together class.
-He knows how to use the instruments we’ve bought him (check it out here, and here). He’s a fast learner.

Soon he’s going to be half a year old. I’m looking forward to starting Baby-led weaning then. Hoping he will be sitting unassisted by then. I think he’s well on his way.

4 Months- and a call for a sleeping solution!

Untitled

I started this post last week and am finally able to finish it…assuming Little Man doesn’t wake up. Where’s my excellent little sleeper? Have you seen him?  Last week he was back to sleeping 6 hours before needing a snack and returning to sleep. I was blaming his shift in sleep schedule to growing pains. But these last couple of days he’s back to not being able to soothe himself back asleep. And we’re having to rock him to sleep at naptime and at night. It’s rough. He’s also waking up several times at night and wanting to be rocked back to sleep then too. It’s rough!

Putting him to sleep can eat up about 3 or more hours in a day. I’m not sure why he’s struggling so much because he isso tired. And we’re against letting him cry it out so that’s not a method we want to try. We need to find a no-tears sleep solution. If anyone has one please share! We are tired over here! And I miss spending time in the evening with my husband. I feel as though we only get to catch up on the weekends because our son’s bed-time routine eats up our evenings.

We are quite torn on whether we should get him to sleep earlier. Right now we start his routine around 8 and he’s not asleep until right before or a wee bit after 9. IF we put him down at 7 it wouldn’t leave much time for my husband to visit with Ollie before he goes to bed. So yeah, we are stumped. We are still hoping he’s suffering from growing pains and will go back to the ace sleeper he use to be. Wishful thinking?

So milestones and firsts…

Leading up to his 4 month birthday, he found his toes. He’s been sucking on them ever since. Cutest thing ever!

Untitled

Tummy time has become old hat and he’s killing it. He no longer cries when he’s put on his tummy.

Untitled

He is loving his reflection. He loves looking at himself during bath-time and when we sit in front of the closet mirror in his room.

Untitled

We went on our first official trail walk. California is FULL of trails and I’ve decided we need to hit most of the ones near us. On this particular day we went to Sawyer Camp Trail.

Untitled

Untitled

We think his hair has finally stopped falling off and is starting to grow back. Yay! (I’m happy to say I think the same for myself. Phew.)

4 months

Other things: he’s chatting a lot more. Making different sounds and squealing at times. He’s also becoming quite the drooling monster.

Untitled

Also he’s a hair and earring grabber. Ow!

He’s still loving his jumparoo and all his toys, especially Petey the Pirate (a rattle) and Sophie the Giraffe.

Overall our son is quite the happy smiley baby. I just hope he can learn to go to sleep soon because he might become a crabby one. Hopefully not. I’m sure this sleeplessness is a stage and will surely end (right? right?!). We just want to help him now rather than let him suffer from tiredness. So yeah, any tips on how to help him self-sooth to sleep would be great!

3 months (Very very late)

Little Dude is 3 1/2 months so these photos are a bit late.

IMG_7358

Every day seems to bring a new milestone; he’s growing so quickly.

-Yesterday he found his toes and he’s been playing with his feet ever since. He enjoys “talking” a lot.
-Last night we sang lullabies together and the whole experience melted my heart.
-His napping schedule is erratic of late. He was sleeping from 10AM-3PM  and then 5PM-6PM every day until about 2 weeks ago. And now that he isn’t I feel silly not to have taken advantage of it and done more projects. Oh well. I took that time to just chill out, appreciate the me time and catch up on blogs.

IMG_8108

-He army crawled once but has yet to do it again.

IMG_7987

-He said “Mama” three times but I am pretty sure it was a fluke. He hasn’t said it since.
-We are both losing our hair. Why the hell is postpartum hair loss not spoken more about. Thank goodness I have a lot of hair, but darn it, I’d like to keep it that way.

Photo on 6-21-13 at 5.12 PM #3

-His longest stretch of sleep at night has been 6 hours. He’s still nursing once at night and once early in the morning. I hope sleeping through the night is coming soon. I won’t complain about short naps too much if it happens.
-With assistance (of course) he sits and stands when told “up” and “down”. Comes in handy when bathing him.
-He laughs every time I put his pants on. Every. Time.
-He often chews and it reminds me of my great aunt Ali (his namesake).
-The diaper kicks are happening every time he needs changing. He kicks with so much gusto I often laugh.
-He twiddles his fingers since he was 2 months all. He looks so thoughtful when doing it.
-He is such a morning person. Every day, after his 6AM feed, I put him in bed with us for some morning cuddles. He gives me the BEST smiles and loves to chat. I imagine he’s telling me about his dreams 🙂

My boy is growing so fast. I love to see the development and can’t wait to see what the next few months brings us.

IMG_4171

Mama’s Development
-I am off the blood pressure meds. But my BP still isn’t as low as it used to be. Hoping it regulates in the next few months.
-We go on walks about 4-5 times a week. I really want to start running again but need some umph in my motor to get started.
-The hair thing. It is falling out in clumps. I panicked until I found out it’s normal to experience hair loss once the estrogen dips after birth. Still not cool. Now I know why so many women cut their hair after having a baby. I’m tempted.

So that’s us lately 🙂

40 Weeks-Due Date

40 Weeks-Baby, we're waiting

How far along| 40 Weeks.
Baby’s Size| According to babycenter.com the baby may weigh around 7.5 pounds at birth.
Weight Gain| +16.5 pounds. Since baby dropped there’s more room in my stomach. Recent bouts of comfort eating is showing up on the scale. Womp, womp.
Sleep| The increase in late night bathroom breaks is affecting my sleep, for sure.
Clothes| Loving my stretchy trousers this week.
Cravings| Thinmints.
Food Aversions| Nothing.
Symptoms| Early this morning (around 3AM) I started having cramps that radiated to my back. By 9AM they were averaging around 7.5 minutes apart. But by noon they tapered off. From the afternoon onwards I’ve been having contractions every 20-30 minutes. But other than those pains, no other signs of labor. Waiting for that consistency and urgency in the contractions.
Movement| Moving here and there. Think he’s officially cramped.
Belly Button| In
Baby’s Sex| Boy!
Highlight of the Week| Finally something is starting!
What I miss| Not visiting the toilet every freaking second.

***************************************

I had a non-stress test Friday after feeling baby’s movements decrease. They assessed that my amniotic fluid is low. And even after some heavy water drinking this weekend it was still low. Baby is moving and sounds great, but the fluid is still of concern. I have to see my doctor on Wednesday to discuss “a plan.” She’s going to bring up the dreaded “I” word: induction. Unless our health is in danger I don’t want an induction. I still have a few days to let baby come on his own accord and I intend to let him take his time.

In other news, I’m having a nice visit with my mom 🙂

My mom and me.

39 Weeks-Baby Showered

39 weeks

How far along| 39 weeks. Finally…finally I feel uncomfortable, looking forward to having my body back and am ready to meet my little mister.
Baby’s Size| According to babycenter.com, “20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon.”
Weight Gain| +13.5 pounds.
Sleep| Sleeping well. Feeling whale-ish when turning around in bed.
Clothes| Scored a cute dress for our virtual shower. Since it’s a wrap it’ll be wearable after baby arrives.
Cravings| Still loving cold things: slushies, sorbets, ice cream…
Food Aversions| Nothing.
Symptoms| Hip pain, pelvic pain, feeling awkward.
Movement| I can feel bigger movements (assuming it’s his head and shoulders), not so many kicks.
Belly Button| In
Baby’s Sex| A wee boy.
Highlight of the Week| My awesome friend Trish hosted a virtual shower for me. I didn’t think something like that would be possible but it totally was. I had such a great time seeing everyone. We were quite fortunate to receive lovely baby gifts. Feeling very thankful.
What I miss| Still…no hip pain.

*******************************************************************

My mama’s in town for our impending baby arrival. Looking forward to just relaxing and hanging out with her. Today I got the rest of his clothes in order, our bags are packed, and the house is clean. So yeah, we can officially say we are ready for him to come!

Week 38-Dropping like it’s hot

38 Weeks-Feeling nautical.

How far along| 38 weeks.
Baby’s Size| Almost 7 pounds and possibly about 19 inches long.
Weight Gain| +12.5 pounds.
Sleep| Sleeping well. Turning around can be troublesome but more due to the joint hip pain I get here and there.
Clothes| Feeling nautical.
Cravings| Sweets. And slushies.
Food Aversions| Nothing.
Symptoms| That damn burning hip pain comes around after I’ve been walking for 20 or so minutes. What an unbelievable pain. A few Braxton Hicks here and there.
Movement| I’ve never felt him up against my ribs until this week, one day. It was the oddest feeling. He hasn’t done it again.
Belly Button| In
Baby’s Sex| Little Greg.
Highlight of the Week| Baby dropped. My stomach feels and looks so much lower.
What I miss| No hip pain.

**************************************************

This week I took a break from housework and made the baby some fitted sheets and finished his sling.

Crib sheets done. Nice, quick project.

The sheets came together super easy. What took time was getting that elastic through the casing. I must invest in bigger safety pins 🙂

He's a good sport, trying out the sling I made.
Next up are the crib skirts and some wee hats.

G had Friday off so we took advantage of the sunny skies and warm weather and headed to Half Moon Bay to check out the coast. The views were quite beautiful. Made for a wonderful afternoon.

Ooh. Pretty.

All this water makes me want to learn to swim.

The Hawaiian ice and yummy lunch didn’t hurt either :). Ate that too fast and didn’t get to snap a photo.

It’s been really nice to have some “us” time before baby comes. Hoping to maybe squeeze some more if little mister doesn’t decide to come early.

Engaged? Engaging?

Engaged?

Yesterday I noticed that my little one has moved from his favorite spot (the right side of my bump) to the middle. My stomach feels a lot more solid and round so I can’t help but wonder if he’s positioning himself for labor and finally moving on down. Maybe? Wishful thinking?

In other news, I am feeling a lot better today. There’s something about sharing your thoughts and getting some perspective on a matter that can help you move along. Thanks for the comments! I have been quite happy during this whole pregnancy/moving/re-locating/ experience but I have allowed myself to get unhappy here and there. It’s only human. And way better than shoving emotions down and carrying on. Well, for me anyway.

As soon as the baby is born and ready to go about I’ll be joining a few mommy and sewing groups. I really need to start making friends. There’s a lot to be said about human interaction. When I first arrived in London I got depressed from the weather (SAD is no joke!), not finding work and my lack of friends. Finally I put myself out there and accepted invites from wonderful expats (Hi Mandy!) and met up with wonderful sewists. So I figured it’s time to do the same here…eventually. Thankfully my husband is super supportive of me going out and meeting people so he’s prepared to go on solo-daddy duty (ha!).

36 weeks-4 more to go!

36 weeks

How far along| 36 weeks.
Baby’s Size| Mr. Chex Mix should be weighing around 6 pounds and be around 18.5 inches long. I do hope this is the case.
Weight Gain| +10.
Sleep| Okay, except for the constant turning over to find comfort. And all the potty breaks.
Clothes| I have managed to have quite a fun wardrobe between all the ready-to-wear clothes that still fit, the ones I made and the few maternity pieces I bought. Still loving my wardrobe. I feel quite fortunate in that regard.
Cravings| Not pickles! And just like that, the craving left as easily as it came. So random. I am only craving sweet things and candy. I have been hankering for (and getting) freshly squeezed orange juice and fresh lemonade. But as for proper foods, coming up with meals these days is quite hard. Nothing sounds nice. Feels a lot like the first trimester, me forcing down food.
Food Aversions| Pickles.
Symptoms| Mushy brain. Tired by 5ish and awake by 9ish. My dry hands have gotten a wee bit better but not by much. Also, suddenly I have a pain in my right heel. And the burning hip is still around. Wth? Where do these aches come from?
Movement| On some days it feels like he’s making his way south. And he moves quite a bit more when his Papa is home 🙂
Belly Button| Still in.
Baby’s Sex| A Mini Greg.
Highlight of the Week| Washing the baby’s clothes, and getting the crib and glider put together. The room looks stark but it should start getting some color as soon as we start putting up the decor, put on the bedding, etc. I also sent out some baby gifts to friends. I am waiting to hear from them, hoping they like the bibs and burp cloths I made.

Nursery is finally coming together. Slowly but surely.
What I miss| My hip not hurting after some walking or moving about.

**********************************************

With four weeks to go I’m feeling the pressure. I selfishly want Chexie here with us but logically I know he should bake longer…And give us time to get the house in order. G and I managed to put quite the dent in unpacking and breaking down boxes (mostly him). We can see more of the floor! Hurray!  Today I get to arrange the closets and get another charity donation pile going. The last room that will get touched is the sewing room, sadly. It just has too much work involved considering it’s the office as well. And I want it to be well organized. I want to focus on it completely when the time comes.

In other news, I feel quite good even though I get those aches here and there. I am hoping the heel pain doesn’t start affecting my walks. I’ve been enjoying walking around in the sun and just getting to know the neighborhood. I live within 10 minutes of the high/main street, so I do quite a bit of browsing there.

Well, I’m off to get more of this place sorted. Wish me luck. I can see a wee bit of light at the end of the tunnel.
